[News] K-pop idol Micky flies solo in drama

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Torn and bruised by a series of events involving a legal battle with his agency, K-pop idol Micky ― one-fifth of the near-disbanded boy band TVXQ ― put in a confident if somewhat close-mouthed press appearance for his major acting debut in KBS’ “Seonggyungwan Scandal” on Tuesday.

“Who wouldn’t feel pressure when starting something new?” Micky, a.k.a. Park Yoo-chun, said fielding comparisons between him and other TVXQ chums that have been making the pop idol-acting crossover.
Park, Hero and Xiah filed a lawsuit against S.M. Entertainment over their 13-year contract last July, but the court’s ruling in partial favor of the trio turned out to be little more than the calm before the storm for the boy wonder.

In April, S.M. filed a court objection to the trio’s injunction and in July slapped a suit on the head of a cosmetics company that the three members had invested in. The latter was in response to a defamation suit filed by the company against S.M.’s CEO. S.M. was cleared of all charges in May.
To add insult to injury, Park’s manager was accused of assault in late July.
Unfazed, it seems, by the brouhaha, Park jumped on board as the lead for the upcoming period piece; a move that will either prove fortuitous or rash.

TVXQ leader U-Know’s small screen debut in MBC’s “No Limit” crashed and burned, bringing in abysmal ratings; not a good harbinger for Park and for member Max who awaits his fate with the drama “Paradise Ranch.” Meanwhile, member Xiah took a safer route through the musical “Mozart!” and Hero pulled off an award-winning performance in a Japanese drama.

Park’s paltry acting experience (primarily through variety show skits and a boy band-pushing TV drama film) will most likely cast doubt on his ability to pull off this hefty role. Both director Kim Won-seok and co-star Song Joong-ki, however, expressed their faith in Park.

“He has a good voice for acting and is attractive-looking,” said Kim, who cemented Park’s reputation as a budding action star by announcing that Park had level three taekwondo skills and that he “hardly used a stunt double.”

Kim then said: “He will surprise you with his slapstick comedy. He is good.”
“I cannot say that I didn’t have prejudices about idols or singers who act, (Park) included,” said co-star Song. “(But) he really tries hard. It is touching.”

Will Park’s efforts pay off?
There is no guarantee that Park will produce a persuasive portrayal of the conceited, self-indulgent, blue blood Joseon Dynasty scholar Lee Seon-joon; especially when the singer admits that he himself lacks the anal tendencies of his character.

“My personality is somewhat open and free,” the 24-year old said. “But the hidden sense of pressure (my character feels) is similar. I can relate to that.”

His ability to tune into the darker side of Lee could add depth to the romantic, gender-bender series.
Based on a novel, “Seonggyungwan Scandal” ― as its name suggests ― unfolds at the Joseon Dynasty’s premier educational institution, Seonggyungwan.

Believed to be established during the Goryeo Dynasty as Gukjagam in 992, the institute was re-christened Seonggyungwan in the early 1300s.

There the male progeny of high-ranking officials and aristocrats prepared for the state examination “gwageo” and were trained for government service work. Alumni include famed scholar Yi Hwang (1501-1570), a.k.a. Toegye whose face currently decorates the 1,000 won note.

The drama, however, exhibits no pedantic pretensions.

The school, in essence, serves as a vehicle for a “Twelfth Night”-esque plotline, where a ballsy female (played by “Princess Ja-Myung” actress Park Min-young) masquerades as a man to enter Seonggyungwan in her sickly brother’s stead. There she encounters fellow student Lee Seon-joon (Park Yoo-chun) and a romance blossoms.

The male-only school backdrop also allowed for the inclusion of a bevy of good-looking actors, providing plenty of eye candy for female viewers.

“Seonggyungwan Scandal,” however, promises to be more than just a frilly, one-note rom-com.
“The piece will bring out the romance, the melodrama and the slight raciness of the tale while also highlighting how these youngsters perceive society and how they mature,” said director Kim, assuring the press that the series would dramatize actual aspects of the Joseon Dynasty institute.

In the meantime, cast and staff members can benefit from Park Yoo-chun’s loyal fans. According to co-star Park Min-young, hundreds of fans visit the set three times a week, bringing hoards of food for everyone.
“I feel very grateful,” she said.

“Seonggyungwan Scandal” airs on Aug. 30 at 9:55 p.m. on KBS 2 TV.

[News] Tohoshinki Trio Speaks openly About Their Complex Emotions And New Determination

In June, they held the concert “JUNSU/JEJUNG/YUCHUN THANKSGIVING LIVE IN DOME” at the two major Domes, and started breaking away from Tohoshinki. Junsu, Jejung and Yuchun have started their activities as a trio. At Tokyo Dome on 13 June, when they held their final concert, many reports spoke about how the trio cried while showing their love and thanks to the fans, showing their unwavering popularity.

Before embarking on the new stage, Junsu, Jejung and Yuchun went on their own journeys in search of themselves. Their honest words from their hard, and what they feel about the new stage, a real side of themselves are shown in the DVD “3hree Voices”, which was just released.

Junsu released his solo single “XIAH,” which did favorably, went to Australia for the first time. He thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful sea, admired the vast nature and was excited all the time, a total opposite from his normal calm self. “This is a time when I can look back on everything that happened since debut,” he said, talking about his current feelings.

After the recently ended drama “Sunao Ni Narenakute (Hard to say I love you)”(Fuji TV) and showing his acting skills in Japanese, Jejung headed to Canada. He enjoyed dog sledding, and drinking with the staff. Jejung, who has been working hard from Tohoshinki to the current solo activities, showed a fresh side as he went around.

And for Yuchun, he went back to his home country, Korea. He was born in Seoul, but grew up in America and went through a hard time. Returning to Korea alone to debut with Tohoshinki, and went through a turbulent route. He now revisits Korea “because this is the country I was born in,” he expresses. You can see his love and feelings for his home country, as well as determination for the new stage.

The three spent time in various places reflecting. Yuchun is shooting a drama in Korea, and other solo activities have started. As they show their honest appearance and words, we want to discover the passion they have been hiding in their heart.

[News] Micky Yoochun's manager booked without detention

Micky Yoochun's manager has been booked without detention for assaulting a female high school student.

Team 3 of the Western Hwasung Police Station stated that, "During the interrogation, Mr. Park (The manager) admitted to pushing the student's shoulder," and "Swearing at someone or pushing someone is considered assault, so he was booked without detention."

According to the police, the manager admitted to his actions against the student. The police stated, "It doesn't matter whether or not Mr. Park slapped the student or not. Mr. Park has already admitted to his crime." They also added, "There will be an additional investigation with the CCTV footage and statements for the witnesses."

The case will be handed over to the Prosecution next month. There is a high possibility that Mr. Park will have his indictment suspended or receive a fine. A representative of the investigation team involved stated, "Because this is an assault case, it will end quickly with a suspension of his indictment or a fine," and "Which of the two punishments he receives will depend on his past criminal records."

A settlement between Mr. Park and the student would not greatly affect the penalty Mr. Park will receive. The police stated, "A settlement would only change the severity of the penalty," and "If they were to reach a settlement, Mr. Park would more likely receive a suspension of indictment or a smaller fine."

Mr. Park has been investigated by the police for assaulting a fan of Micky Yoochun who was taking a picture of the celebrity. Mr. Park stated, "The student was swearing profusely at me, so I lightly pushed her on the shoulder," and "Her allegations that I slapped her are completely false."

Mr. Park stated that he will accept the police's judgment. He stated, "Because the police have stated that even pushing someone's shoulder is assault, I will take the penalty," and "I was hoping to reach a settlement but the student keeps saying that she was slapped and won't back down. So, I have decided that it would be better to just receive the punishment I am given."

[TRANS] DBSK - 100725 Letter from Chinese fan Part 3 - Do you remember?

Jung Yunho,
Do you remember when Jaejoong sang 'I want to be your bed..' to you on a variety show?
Do you remember Park Yoochun? The boy who used to appear on variety shows with you, and once 'stole' away the girl you liked?
Do you remember Kim Junsu? The boy who'd take you home with him during your trainee days, and who had a relationship with you closer than that of blood-related brothers?
Do you remember in Couple Talk, when Changmin said you were the reason that Dong Bang Shin Ki is as successful as it is?

Kim Jaejoong,
Do you remember that variety show in Japan, where you hurriedly thrusted a biscuit at Yunho after eating food so spicy that even you had difficulty swallowing?
Do you remember in that Q&A session where you and Yoochun both said that you were the first to cry at the award ceremony, but all other members picked Chun?
Do you remember that concert, where you pushed Junsu around the stage on his wheelchair?
Do you remember when you first debuted, when you stole Changmin's pajamas so you could appear more friendly to the fans?

[FANACCOUNT] 100724 SungKyunKwan Scandal Fanmeet: Yoochun wants to get married at 40?

Did you feel lonely whilst you were away from Seoul during the production of the drama? Were there any people in particular that you kept in contact with?

Yoochun: I wasn't lonely, but I did feel a little homesick every now and then. Also, besides the members and my family, I didn't really contact anyone.
Junsu was the hardest to get in touch with and Jaejoong is away on holiday. Where is he going? Hahaha I can't tell you that.
(Reporter: Yoochun was adorable as he said this whilst laughing)

Are you dating any of the actresses in this drama?

Yoochun: Nope, and it won't happen in the future either.

How was the atmosphere during filming?

Yoochun: We got along really well and everyone was very happy.

Have you thought about when you'll get married? Would you marry a Japanese girl?

Yoochun: I haven't thought about that much, because then I'd also have to think about divorce and such. Personally, if I had children, I wouldn't want to put them through that kind of torment. I've talked about it with my mom, and she said that as long as the girl is Asian, then it's fine with her. My mother is pretty strict and stubborn regarding this issue *laughs*, I'll probably get married at around 40 *laughs*
