(100805) Han Geng’s interview: Simplicity is the most direct weapon

Everywhere seems quiet, everywhere is flooded with humans. Endless darkness pressurizes our ear drums. A screen lacerated across the night with lightning speed, just like a knife blade stabbing through quickly, as if wanting to puncture the past which seems to be faking its sleep. The sky, full of stars starts to rotate, screaming from far starts to build up and the drums start to roll. Every single beats pound on the chest. Someone stretched out his hands and the radiance seems to get caught tightly in his hands immediately.

This is Han Geng on the stage. He said that he had caught the things he wanted.

By chance is just by chance. If you asked how Han Geng had got onto this stage, this would be his reply. “I started dancing at the age of 12, and then by chance, I took part in a talent competition, and by chance, I was chosen, everything seems like it happened naturally, even I felt that our life is made up of chances.” Yes, who would already knew what will happen in their life? We have never heard that of life is like a pack of arranged cards. When we look at it to understand, it will only be when they unveiled themselves.

So there is no need to ask why he left Super Junior, why he chose to come back from Korea to develop his career. All these, from the start weren’t in his expectations as well. When facing all these changes, he couldn’t even evaluate himself. “There is nothing special. I am a very simple person; I just want to do everything I need to do nicely. How should I get along with life, how I live on or how should I stay with my friends or whatever. Everyone would talk about planning for their life but I am very uncertain myself. And, I also do not know how to position myself.” So the arrangements of his new company for the press conference of his concert and new album made him look like a warrior. “Official announcement of further developing his career as a solo artiste”, regarding the unsolved contract termination case, Han Geng also discussed about the latest development. “I am still very grateful towards them. I have been in this company since my debut in 2005, but there have been some friction in our cooperation, for example the understanding between us and respect.”

After walking on for so long, Han Geng still has no idea of how his future would look like. “As of now, everyone is working happily together. Everyone is moving on together, taking one step at a time.” Clearly, this road is going to be tough. “But after all, this is something I like to do. I love to stay on the stage. No matter how tough it is, it is worth it and there would be returns.” Now, Han Geng is sitting in front of me and not on the stage. He talks softly and slowly. “I can say that I grow up on the stage. I took up dancing since young and now, I am an artiste. I am someone with a clumsy mouth. I do not know how to express myself much, so only on the stage, I can only find myself. When on the stage, I am the most relaxed and the happiest.

Actually, he always has an idol in his heart: Tony Leung. But he knows that he would never be the second Tony Leung, and there is no need to as well. “The movies he acted in and the impression he gives everyone have always being attracting my attention.” So this is his target, “Because I love to act. I want to be an actor more than singer. At that time, I just went to Korea, but I did not want to give up on my performance and results on the stage, so I have been working very hard.”

Han Geng did not think about what kind of acting roles should he accept. “Because I do not have much acting experiences so I also do not know what kind of roles would suit me. But if I really want to be in a movie, I would like to take up roles in an action movie. I want to take things slowly. Firstly, someone must look for me to act in a movie. I am still waiting.” He laughed, away from the spotlight, Han Geng in life isn’t a very sharp and demanding person.

So you can imagine that when he is angry or feeling stress, the most he would do is listening to music, watching the TV, watching movies and playing games at home. “I like slow love ballads more, just turn on the music louder and I would feel better after a while. When I am on the internet, I would usually look at the comments left by my fans, mostly is to look at their reactions (on certain matters). I would not chat on the net; I do not have QQ or MSN.

Do not think that I can sleep and wake up naturally. “If I have the time, I would drop by the gym or take up some lessons. But, I would make sure that I have 8 hours of sleep every day. I don’t really bother about the maintenance of my face or whatever. I washed my face with soup bar, but I would put on some moisturizer because my skin is very dry. I see that many people, after they put on moisturizer, they would pat their face but I don’t do that, I just rub it on with my hands because I felt that it is too troublesome.

The world is becoming more and more complicated, especially when we talk about success. In reality, when we show our merits, we also exposed out weaknesses. In this era, not everyone is brave enough to reject certain things, not everyone is brave enough to reject going along and change themselves. You can show many different sides of yourself, or perhaps, you think that you have many different sides. But, in fact, you do not need to show so many different sides of yourself because in the end, the only thing you need to show or face is yourself.

Han Geng is that simple, brave when facing the world.

Q: How do you position the China (Chinese) music industry?
A: It is a little different compared to the Japan and Korea music industry. Japan and Korea music industry have a more matured system. China (The Chinese) is still exploring in this industry and is becoming more mature. In future, in the whole of Asia, the best would still be China (Chinese) music industry.

Q: What is China (Chinese) music industry’s position in Asia?
A: They are climbing and improving slowly. There are many of hopes now. Many outstanding singers are expanding internationally, including the stage, style, production and etc.

Q: What position in the China (Chinese) music industry do you think you are in?
A: Still do not understand much about myself

Q: How do you measure the value of an artiste?
A: Look at one’s confidence and positioning. There must be quality and value.

Q: What is the toughest in work?
A: A lot of things need to be done for preparation. Everyone likes it a lot. Everyone in the team is the same; always stay up late for recording and more.

Q: People who treated you like an idol, how you think they look like?
A: There isn’t an exact answer.

Q: What can you give them (fans)?
A: Encouragement. No matter whether I am on the stage or the other sides of me, I hoped that they will see the real me. I am actually a very simple person. I value my family and friends a lot.

Q: Other than being an idol, what kind of people can be your friends?
A: Let nature takes its course. I do not have any special requirements. I only need them to be friendly and nice. Friends should be pure and simple. Most of my friends have been with me for more than 10 years.

A: We talk about what we see. Just chat freely. We would also talk about our work and daily life.

A: There were a few times that I felt really free on stage.
I felt that there isn’t anyone by my side and I can open up completely.

A: There are more or less, some relations. You are an artiste but you can’t just go to work relying on your appearance.

Q: What are you busy with nowadays?
A: I am still busy with my album, recording is completed. There is a whole new work, with a choreographer who had worked with Michael Jackson for 18 years and also, his dancers. They are all from the Michael Jackson’s movie and it is our first time working together. It would be in my new album. And, I took 4 hours to finish learning the whole dance.

Q: Do you think that you are well-known in China?
A: Ordinary.

Q: Meaning that you are still not satisfied?
A: It’s just that I still need to work harder.

Q: Debuting in Korea, is there any impact on your artiste career?
A: There is a rather great impact. But the Korean company gave me a lot of experiences and I got great success. I am very grateful towards them.

Q: If you debuted in China, how would you look like?
A: Never thought of it before.

Q: What are your views towards the Super Junior now?
A: I really do not have any opinions.
